This week the national average cost of diesel is 115.8 pence per litre.
Fuel is the major cause of price rises in our industry. It's been a long time since diesel was less than unleaded. This is unlikely to change anytime soon. Sorry.
The following report is from from the AA's website
March 2008 -- With the price of oil now established well above the $100-a-barrel mark, UK fuel prices look set to continue rising to new records going into the Spring. Despite some welcome relief from the Chancellor's decision to defer a two-pence rise in fuel duty, a two-car owning family is still spending nearly £37 more on petrol than it did this time last year.
Nationally, unleaded prices have risen by 2.8ppl to 106.8ppl in the past month. Diesel prices have risen by 5.0ppl to 114.3ppl. The price difference between unleaded and diesel has risen from 5.3ppl to 7.5ppl.
London recorded the highest price for unleaded at 107.6ppl followed by Northern Ireland at 107.5ppl. Yorkshire and Humberside recorded the lowest price for unleaded at 105.8ppl. Wales recorded the highest diesel price at 115.1ppl. The North West still has the cheapest diesel at 113.6ppl.
Supermarket prices for unleaded also rose over the month by 2.9ppl to 105.4ppl. The gap between supermarket prices and the UK average for unleaded has decreased to 1.4ppl.
Overseas prices have risen. The UK has the tenth highest unleaded price in Europe and the second highest diesel price.
