PumpWatch is an app launched by Fair Fuels UK. Fair Fuels UK was founded in order to give motorists a voice against rising fuel prices and fuel duty. It’s certainly a contentious issue as the government needs to address the problem of increased air pollution which is believed to be a major contributor to many health issues including asthma. Currently they are proposing vehicle bans in some cities as well as tax hikes and congestion charges.
Fair Fuels UK believes there are other alternatives to tackling air pollution and are seeking to lobby the government to consider these alternative solutions. Fair Fuels UK want the government to create PumpWatch as an independent fuel price watchdog. Indeed, there are a number of MP’s who agree with the idea of an industry watchdog to keep fuel prices fair for motorists. On the flip side, some have suggested that any such watchdog would be difficult to manage and maintain, that implementing another quango could mean higher taxation and enforcing controlled fuel pricing would undermine free market principles.
The recently released app available for your smartphone will give you up-to-date information on the amount of tax you are paying each time you fill up your car. You will be able to look at how much tax you’re paying on your fuel, look back at your fuel purchases and compare how much tax you’ve been paying on it. The app will keep you updated with the PumpWatch campaign and any political decisions that affect motorists.
What are your thoughts on fuel taxation? How does this affect you personally or as a business?
